Week 14: Gee's Principles

The three principles I thought would be important to education were the practice principle, situated meaning principle, and the discovery principle. The reason that I chose these three were because each one of them were student centered and that is extremely important. Practicing makes perfection that was a main reason why I chose the practice principle. Students learn quite a bit by symbols, objects, words, and actions so that is why I chose the situated meaning principle. I really liked the discovery principle because students learn really well by experiments and making discoveries on their own.

If I were in the classroom I would use the practice principle because in P.E. a bunch of things are mastered through practice and nothing more. Having the kids practice how to dribble a basketball or throw a ball correctly can only be accomplished by practice. Some variables students could manipulate would be changing the way they practice to successfully complete a task. This would affect each other by showing the students different ways they can complete a certain task.

In conclusion, I chose these three learning principles because they were the ones that I thought would best fit my P.E. classroom. There are so many different types of learners out there and you won't get a classroom where every student learns best the same way. Every student needs different methods of teaching and it is best that you know how to use all of the learning principles so that you can give your students the best opportunity for learning.

Week 13 Assignment: Meaningful Learning

Technology Based Rubrics:

I feel that the technology based rubrics is a great thing for the student because they can see what exactly the instructor is going to grade them on. It also shows the student how many points a certain thing of the assignment is going to be which can be a big help for students. So when the student gets their assignment back and they do not like their grade and wonder why they scored the way they did they can just simple look at the rubric which will explain everything.

Clicker Assignment Tools:

I think that clicker assignment tools are great for in the classroom because it brings a level of learning for the students to enjoy. It is also really good for engaging your employees or in a board meeting of some type. This is a great thing to bring into the classroom because it engages students in the ability to learn while using technology as a major tool.

Inspiration / Kidspiration Software:

Inspiration is a great tool to use for grades 6-12 because it helps with visual mapping, outlining, and writing and making presentations. Inspiration can help students strengthen their thoughts and help them to put their ideas together to make a great presentation. Not only will it help them in grades 6-12 but it will also help them when they get into the real world or in college if they decide to attend a college. I know I have had to do hand fulls of presentations in college and I really wish I would have known about Inspiration so that I could use it for help.

Kidspiration software is a great tool to help kids in grades K-5th in the areas of critical thinking enhancement, literacy and number skills while using proven visual learning principles. I think that this tool is really good for students at these grade levels because it can really help them understand a subject or an area of learning that they are having problems in. This software really breaks things down so that the students can understand them better which in turn helps them learn the material easier.
